Blacklisted Universities in Benin Republic
Over the years, there have been rumors circulating around about some Benin Republic universities being blacklisted.
In fact, at a time, it became the No 1 thing people searched on google.
The right term to use might not be “blacklisted” but probably “non-accredited”.
Most universities in Benin Republic are only accredited to offer social science and management courses; they are not expected to offer certain courses, but then some of these schools due to whatever reason divert, and begin to offer courses they are not accredited to offer.
When students graduate after studying these non-accredited courses, they eventually experience some issues in the long run.

Are Universities in Benin Republic accredited?
School accreditation status also acts as one of the most significant decision-making criteria for students choosing a school in the Republic of Benin, and understandably so.
The number of individuals and prospective students misinformed about the accreditation of schools in the Republic of Benin is troubling
School accreditation status also acts as one of the most significant decision-making criteria for students choosing a school in the Republic of Benin, and understandably so.
“Beware of false knowledge, it is more dangerous than ignorance.”
Here it is…
Accreditation in Benin Republic is not based on the school but on the COURSES offered.
There are a large number of universities in the Republic of Benin, all of which are approved to offer some certain, not all of them.
You need to understand that the universities in the Republic of Benin are all approved and offer mainly arts, social science and engineering courses. However, when it comes to medical courses such as nursing, pharmacy, medical laboratory science and even courses such as law, not all colleges are approved to offer them. Find out the schools that offer them
While not all English private universities are directly approved to provide courses such as Pharmacy, Law, Nursing, etc., they provide these courses on the basis of affiliation or a structured partnership arrangement with schools in Togo, Cameroon, Niger and some other West African countries. This ensures that students can earn qualifications from top institutions in these countries and not from the schools in the Republic of Benin.
Students should not rely and be focused on the accreditation of a school, but rather on the “Accreditation of their desired course in that school”.

Are medical courses accredited in Benin Republic Universities?
The short answer is, No.
“What? Then why do schools in Benin Republic offer it?”
Hold on now, let’s explain how.
Firstly, note that Medicine and surgery is NOT offered by any English-speaking university in Benin Republic.
Secondly, when we say ‘medical courses’, we mean courses such as Nursing, Pharmacy and Medical laboratory Science.
Thirdly, no English-speaking university in Benin Republic is directly accredited to offer the aforementioned medical courses. These courses are offered by some Universities in Benin Republic based on Affiliation with other universities outside Benin Republic.
What does that mean?
It means that certain universities in Benin Republic offer these courses on the basis of affiliation or a structured partnership arrangement with schools in Togo, Cameroon, Niger and some other across the globe.
This means that students earn their qualifications from top institutions in these countries and not from affiliated schools in the Republic of Benin.
For instance, LEADPRENEUR ACADEMY in Benin Republic offer Nursing Science based on an affiliation with a university in Cameroon. LEADPRENEUR ACADEMY is not accredited to award a Nursing certificate to any student. LEADPRENEUR ACADEMY’s nursing students study extensively on campus for three years and then they head down the School in Cameroon for final year and clinicals. Thereafter, they are awarded their certificates.
Is Law accredited in Benin Republic?
Just like the Medical courses mentioned above, the same goes for Law. Law is a 4- year course and the program is run on the basis of Affiliation

There you have it, a level by level breakdown on admission requirements in Benin Republic Universities.
Tuition fee in Benin Republic Universities
As a prospective student of one of the universities of the Republic of Benin, it is important to have an estimation of the amount involved in the analysis. The university fees in Benin Republic vary from school to school.
Fees are billed per session and can be paid in installments. The Tuition rate for fresher items varies from 180,000 NGN to 450,000 NGN. The nominal fee is for distance learning.
This fee range depends on a variety of variables, including school, course, degree, and mode of study. Online learning is more accessible than college learning.
Transfer and Direct Entry students do pay a transfer fee of 50,000 Naira, excluding tuition
Tuition for Top Up students for a wide range of courses is 350,000 Naira.
The school fee for masters also varies from 550,000 NGN to 1,5 million NGN. This price range also depends on some of the factors mentioned above, in particular the school awarding the certificate (which could be from the Republic of Benin, Togo, CAMBODIA, USA …).
Also, the Masters program is only through distance learning.

Hostel Accommodation in Benin Republic Universities
Accommodation and hostel facilities also vary for undergraduate students based on campus. The fee is between 100,000 Naira – 150,000 Naira per session. However, hostel accommodation is not compulsory and not all schools have a student hostel.
Students who prefer to stay alone are free to rent an apartment near the school. Well tiled apartment (room self-contained) is about 25,000 CFA (23,000 Naira) or more per month for rent, excluding electricity and water bills.
Renting an apartment here for the most part means paying 3 months of caution and 3 months of advance rent, which means a total of 6 months of rent. So basically, the 3-month rental caution you pay is like a deposit held by the Landlord or caretaker that will be refunded to you whenever you plan to move out, provided you have not damaged any property and you are not due to pay any rent. The 3 months advanced will expire after the first 3 months of your stay in the apartment, after which you will have to start paying your rents on a monthly basis.
Houses in the Republic of Benin come with electricity and water meter for each apartment. A wonderful fact about the Republic of Benin is that the supply of electricity and water is very stable. However, in order to enjoy such conveniences, bills are to be paid every month and could be high if the consumption is not managed properly.
Apart from rent caution, a charge for electricity and water caution is also paid when renting an apartment. This ranges from 10,000 CFA to 25,000 CFA each (8,000 Naira-23,000 Naira). Some apartments have a prepaid electricity meter and therefore there is no need for a caution fee.
Just like the rent caution fee, the electricity and water caution fee will be refunded if you do not pay any bills when you decide to move out.
The above analyzes are for a simple, unfurnished apartment. Students will have to buy a mattress, fan, table, chair or any household furniture they might need.

How to come to Benin Republic
It is prudent that you have an idea of how to find your way down to the Republic of Benin.
If you do not board a direct bus or car to Cotonou from somewhere in Nigeria, you will need a better road map of how to get to Benin Republic.
Wherever you are in Nigeria, whether it’s the North, East, West, or South, all you need to do is travel from your place to Lagos state. Instruct the driver to drop you off at mile 2.
As soon as you arrive at mile 2, you’ll see a variety of cars and busses calling for passengers on the right side of the lane. If this is a difficult task, you should get help from road-sellers. Charges from mile 2 to SEME border by car or bus are typically within the price range of 1000 to 3000 naira. Never fail to be vigilant when ensuring the safety of your baggage throughout the journey.
Mile 2 to Seme border takes about 2 hours with some traffic, this can be worse on a bad day, make sure to start your trip really early to avoid traffic.
Since the closing of the Seme border in 2019, students appear a little puzzled and even hesitant to move to the Republic of Benin. Be told that the border is closed for goods, not for human beings. People may also cross the border with or without an international passport, as usual. Only the import of commodities has been forbidden, even those on which customs duties have already been paid.
Also, the border gate closes by 6 pm. This means that once it’s 6 pm, people won’t be allowed to pass any direction. So, try to launch your journey really early so that you can reach the border before closing time.
Apart from the main border gate, there are other routes people use to cross the border, particularly after closing time. These roads are village bush tracks which are not very safe to travel at night.
Let’s make this clear if you are unable to hit the border before 6 p.m. for some reason, don’t border coming, just stay at a hotel in Badagry or wherever you are, and then resume your trip the next day. Better safe than sorry.
When you arrive at the border, please notice that your car or bus stops at the conoil filling station on the right side of the road at the SEME border.
For students who do not have an international passport, when you leave the vehicle, get a good bike (the good ones have some kind of ID card). They usually charge 1,500 naira or more to cross the border into the Republic of Benin. The bike rider is expected to bring you to the park where you’re going to follow a car heading to Cotonou.
Students with an international passport can choose to walk down to the main gate and stamp their passport, that would cost between 500 – 1,000 Naira and then go to the park.
Note that your money needs to be changed from Naira to CFA. At this point, you need to be smart. Before the exchange takes place, you should ask for the exchange rate to avoid being cheated on. You can call an Empress Consult representative to help you with the current exchange rate.
NOTE: What you need to do is change the money you might need for your personal expenses. DO NOT CHANGE YOUR TUITION fee. Your Tuition fee is to be paid in Naira. Find out more about school fees
After you change some currency, it is crucial that you locate any SIM card store and purchase a SIM card to allow you to keep in contact with a representative of Empress consult for more directions.
You can then board a cab to Cotonou at the park, which is expected to cost 1,000-3,000 CFA. Be sure to tell the driver to stop at “Tunde Motors, beside SBEE”
Often Cabs take a while to be filled with passengers, and students choose to ride a bike if they don’t have a lot of baggage. Price varies from 1,000 to 2,000 CFA
Always be sure to discuss and be certain of prices before boarding a cab or bike, don’t hop on a bike without settling on a price. Loose change is an asset, always have some.
It is crucial that you stay in contact and interact with the representative of Empress Consult every step of the way to avoid being deceived or confused at some point.

Benin Republic University Academic Calendar
Most universities in Benin Republic give admissions 3 times a year; September, January and June. The university holds academic sessions in semesters; in other words, three semesters shall be held. Each semester is roughly 3 months or 15 weeks.
The first semester is September and the new session begins. This is the time where the school formally opens, new students are enrolled and existing students transfer to the next level. Application and enrollment start sooner, around July / August. Admission lasts until September / October. The semester lasts until December, when semester exams are written and students take a 2-3 weeks break and resume January.
The second semester of the year is January. New students are also admitted to this semester. The semester will run for about three months. Around May, students write the second semester exams and take a longer break, which could last for 1-4 months.
Students who started in the first semester will take a longer break, while students who joined in the second semester will take a shorter break and then resume, in order for them to catch up with the Summer semester.
The Summer semester is the third and final semester of the academic year and varies slightly from school to school. The semester begins between June and early September. Studying during the summer semester is optional for most students. However, the students who enroll in the summer semester are those who have missed either the first or second semester and want to make up for it.
New students will also be enrolled in this semester. Classes contain the same amount of material and are more focused and intense, with students having to cover up for previous semesters. In this semester, students work smartly and intensively.
Most students like to go on vacation during the summer break, while some prefer to stay back in school and study more. Taking summer classes helps some students to “stay in the mode” of studying. It helps them to maintain the routine of learning and studying throughout the summer. They may also be helped to retain information from the previous semester that they will need in the following semester.

If you are a graduate of any University in Benin Republic, you should seriously consider authenticating your certificate. Having your certificate is not Enough, you need to have them authenticated.
Here’s why
Preparing to work and live abroad is a big undertaking, and you should expect a lot of paperwork. You will likely be asked to present various personal documents needed for your employment and residency, including and especially your university or college degree.
However, did you know that in many cases your university or college degree will not be accepted abroad unless the document has first been “authenticated and legalized”.
As a graduate of Benin Republic, your authenticated documents will be required when taking at certain events in life. Such events include, applying for Masters Abroad, applying for a travel VISA, applying for a Job, just to name a few
With the rise of certificate fraud in the world today, people could easily get a fake university certificate and claim they are graduates from a particular university.
For this reason, so many employers, job recruiting agencies and even government agencies scrutinize their applicants thoroughly before giving them a job or Visa.
We get countless requests from various government departments and companies around the globe for verifying the authenticity of certificates from Benin Republic. This is necessary for job recruitment, issuing of travel Visa and so many other purposes.
Your authenticated certificate can even be used in place of your NYSC Evaluation letter, in cases where the letter is not forthcoming.
